Although widely used in Western Europe, North America and Japan, namely in large cities and capitals, waste-to-energy technologies are still unpracticed in Greece where most of municipal solid waste is landfilled without treatment, in contradiction with EU environmental objectives. It is expected that several large Greek Municipalities will launch Public-Private Partnerships in the coming months, where waste-to-energy systems could play a crucial role. |
